Terms of Service

Last updated 15 August 2026

These are the terms for using PowerLens. We have written them in plain English on purpose. If anything here is unclear, email us and a real person will explain it.

Who we are. PowerLens Pty Ltd, ABN 85 699 732 904, Melbourne, Australia. You can reach us at support@powerlens.com.au.

1. What PowerLens is

PowerLens gives you a verdict on your electricity plan. You upload a power bill, confirm the numbers we read from it, and we test the plans on the market against how your home actually uses power. Then we tell you straight: switch and save, or stay put because you are already on a good deal.

A verdict is information, not instruction. It shows you what the plans we can price would have cost your home, based on your own bill and the plan data retailers publish. What you do with it is your call. We never switch you, sign you up to anything, or contact a retailer on your behalf. Nobody phones you afterwards.

A verdict is not financial advice. We are not financial advisers and PowerLens is not a financial product. It is a price comparison of electricity plans, worked out from your own usage. It does not consider your broader financial situation.

We work for you, not the retailers. We take no commissions, no referral fees, and no payment of any kind from energy retailers. The ranking is always what is best for your house. We earn nothing whether you switch or stay. That is the point of PowerLens.

2. Beta

PowerLens is in beta. That means the product is real and the numbers are real, but we are still building. Access may require a code. Some features are marked as coming soon and are not available yet. During beta our refund promise is at its most generous, as set out in section 5. If we change what the service includes, these terms and the product pages will say so.

3. Accuracy: what we promise, and the honest limits

We would rather show you our limits than hide them.

What we stand behind:

The honest limits:

If we get the numbers wrong, section 5 applies. That is not a get-out. It is the deal.

4. Price, payment, GST and your tax invoice

PowerLens sells two things. Both are priced in Australian dollars and include GST.

5. Refunds

Our promise, exactly as it appears next to the pay button:

Money back if we get the numbers wrong. Beta: email support@powerlens.com.au, no questions asked. We never store your card.

During beta, that means what it says. Email us and we refund your payment, no questions asked. You do not need to prove anything. The refund goes back to the card you paid with. Your report stays available to you even after a refund. See our Refunds page for the steps.

Subscription refunds. Every annual subscription charge — the first one and every renewal — carries a 30-day full refund: email support@powerlens.com.au within 30 days of the charge and we refund it in full. A full refund of a subscription charge stops the monitoring, and your report and its link stay yours — a refund never takes back a report, including the report that came with a subscription purchase. Cancelling without a refund is different: monitoring simply runs to the end of what you've paid for.

Your consumer rights come first. Our promise sits on top of the Australian Consumer Law, not in place of it. Under the ACL our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded, including that they are provided with due care and skill and are fit for their purpose. You are entitled to remedies under the ACL if we fail those guarantees, and those rights are not limited by these terms, by the beta promise, or by anything else we say.

6. Your report link, and your part

7. Acceptable use

Use PowerLens the way it is meant to be used: to check the plan for a real household. Do not:

We rate-limit abusive traffic and we can refuse or withdraw service for conduct in this list. If we withdraw service from someone who has paid and done nothing wrong, we refund them.

8. Your data

The Privacy Policy is the full story and it is written to be read: what we collect, why, where it goes, and how to delete it. The short version: we read your bill once and delete the file, we keep only the extracted numbers, your NMI is stored only as a one-way hash, we never sell your data, and you can delete your report yourself at any time.

9. Our liability

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot be excluded by agreement.

Beyond what the law requires of us, we are honest about what a $15 report — or a $49-a-year watching service — can carry: we are not liable for a retailer's conduct, for a retailer's published data being wrong, for decisions you make on the basis of the report or of a monitoring alert, or for indirect or consequential loss.

10. Changes to these terms

We can update these terms as the product grows. The date at the top always shows the current version, and the terms in force when you bought a report are the ones that apply to that purchase. If a change matters, we will say so plainly on this page rather than bury it.

11. General

These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia. If part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.
