Getting your meter data from EnergyAustralia
Verified 26 July 2026
EnergyAustralia has a proper online request form, and it is one of the better ones. It covers both your usage and your solar exports, which matters for a battery home. The file comes back by email.
The steps
- Open EnergyAustralia's meter usage and export data request page and follow the request link.
- Have a bill handy. You need your account number and your postcode. That is all the form asks for.
- Ask for the last 12 months. You can go back up to two years.
- Ask for the detailed CSV, not the PDF. The CSV is the NEM12 file. The PDF is a summary and cannot be used.
- Have it sent to the primary account holder's email. Any other address needs the account holder to consent first, which adds a step.
What to watch for
- Smart meter only. EnergyAustralia can only fill this request for a property with a smart meter. If your meter still gets read by a person every quarter, there is no half-hourly record to send.
- CSV, not PDF. Both are offered. Only the CSV carries the half-hourly numbers.
- Allow up to 10 business days. That is EnergyAustralia's stated turnaround.
- Your exports are in there. If you have solar, the file includes what you sent back to the grid as well as what you drew from it. That is the half we need to check a battery.
If it does not arrive, or you want it today
Your electricity network holds the same data, and in some states you can download it yourself in minutes rather than waiting. Your network is the same whoever bills you. Find your network.
